DRIVING TIPS FOR SAN ANTONIO

With so many things to see in San Antonio and Texas, a rental car is the way to make the most of your time here. Car rental from San Antonio airport gives you the freedom to travel around in your own time. Here are some tips for driving in San Antonio:

  1. San Antonio highways have several roads called “frontage roads”. These run parallel to the highway and are used for access to private buildings. The freeway exit will often take you onto a frontage road that you may need to drive along for several miles before you reach the final exit.
  2. Be aware of the wagon wheel or ‘loop’ road system which circuits the city. These can be confusing so make sure you know which direction you’re heading in.
  3. The speed limit is 15 mph in residential areas and 30 mph on main streets. On highways, the limit is 70 mph.
  4. Beware of flash floods when it rains heavily. The city is constructed on a rock base and the water doesn’t drain fast. If in doubt don't drive through water as you won't know how deep it is.
  5. The main interstates in San Antonio are I-410 that circles the city, I-10 that skirts downtown, and I-35 that runs north-east to south-west.
  6. You’ll find garages, lots, and meters for parking in San Antonio. For the San Antonio RiverWalk use the Riverbend Garage, and for a visit downtown try Houston Street Garage.
